HISTORY OF THE KIROV PLANT - MANUFACTURER OF KIROVETS TRACTORS

 

The Kirovets Tractors can trace their roots to a small iron factory established in 1789. The current manufacturing plant has been in existence at the current site since 1801 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Kirov Group began mass production of agricultural tractors in 1924 when they were licensed by Ford Motor Company to manufacture Fordson tractors. FMC assisted with assembly-line construction, engineering, and component supply. In 1932 the demand for higher horsepower on Russian farms led to another license-built American tractor from International for the Farmall tractor, which continued until 1940.

 

Demand for more power grew steadily as Russian farms increased in size. In the early ’50s, the factory contracted with the Wagner Bros. of Oregon USA for Wagner’s engineering designs. And after a thorough evaluation, these Wagner based tractors were mass produced and sold as the K700 in September 1964.

 

In 1975, the Kirovets branded tractors added model K701, which has been continually improved and upgraded with more horsepower and modern necessities. These large articulated models were produced in large numbers over the next quarter-century. Many thousands are still ay work around the world today.

 

Kirovets tractors, since the ’80s, have been used on farms in the USA and Canada. Many of those early production tractors are still in use on farms today.

 

The K-744 is a descendant of these very Wagner designs. A Kirovets tractor ticks all the boxes. These machines embody all of the proven technical principles; equal-sized wheels, all driven, a massive articulated frame, ballasted for ideal weight distribution, powerful engines, simple bullet proof transmissions, and auto-locking differentials. A Kirovets tractor is easy to handle, comfortable, inexpensive to maintain, and free from the overly complicated and service intensive features common to many contemporary designs.

 

The 435 hp K-744 is the first tractor designed specifically for the service demands of North American agriculture.

 

 

Kirovets Philosophy for North America

 

We are concerned about the direction agriculture is heading without a lot of thought going into regeneration, sustainability, economic and environmental consequences for family farms and rural communities.

 

The cost of style and technology may increase productive efficiency in acres per man covered. Still, it does not address efficiency in terms of dollars per acre or the sustainability of increasing the number of acres per man day. We cannot change our soil and nutrient management practices to ensure sustainability and reduce the negative environmental impacts of agriculture at a financial loss. Every dollar spent on style, ease of use, and unnecessary technology takes away from our ability to make the changes needed to increase net income while regenerating our soil and protecting our water supplies.

 

There are a great many farming operations that don’t require futuristic features and sports car appearances. These gadgets are mainly for corporate brand competitive advantages, and they have nothing to do with farm profit or performance.
